Must have accessories?

I’m picking up my 2024 TRD Off Road Premium next week and I’m very excited. I haven’t had a truck about 10 years and I’m a little rusty in that department. What are your must-have accessories and recommendations?

Phone holders, tie down straps, tonneau covers… upgrades that make daily life easier (not tires/lift kits).

Congrats on the pickup. If you want the “useful stuff first” list, here’s what I’d do in order:

1) Tonneau Cover (security + weather)

A cover changes the truck completely — keeps gear dry, hides tools/bags, and makes the bed usable daily.

Best styles:

Tri-fold hard = best security + quick access
Soft roll-up = cheapest + easiest

Install difficulty: Easy (most clamp on, no drilling)

2) Bed Mat (stops sliding + protects paint)

Without a mat, everything slides around like crazy. With a mat, groceries/boxes stay put and the bed floor doesn’t get beat up as fast.

3) Floor Liners (especially if you get snow/mud)

The factory carpet mats get gross fast. Full-coverage rubber liners are one of the best “day 1” upgrades.

After those 3, then I’d do phone mount + tie downs.

For bed stuff, don’t overthink it. A few basics go a LONG way:

Ratchet straps (2–4 good ones, not the dollar store kind)
Bungee cords for light loads
Moving blanket (protects gear + tailgate)
Small tool bag with gloves + utility knife

If you plan to haul anything weekly, a tonneau cover + bed mat is the best combo.

The most “truck owner” advice I can give: keep a basic kit under the rear seat. You’ll use it way more than you think.

Under-seat essentials

Socket set + screwdriver set
Vice grips + pliers
Tire pressure gauge
Jump starter pack (or jumper cables)
First aid kit
Flashlight / headlamp
Microfiber towels + cleaning wipes

This stuff saves you from calling for help over small problems.

If you have kids, pets, or you work in dirty clothes, add:

Seat covers (at least rear bench)
Door sill protectors (scratches happen fast)
Console organizer tray (Tacoma storage is deep but messy)

These are cheap upgrades but make the truck feel “new” for longer.

Small but underrated: a good windshield sunshade and a pack of microfiber towels. Keeps the interior cleaner and stops the dash from cooking in summer.

Also if you ever camp or do road trips: keep a small air compressor in the truck.
